Faculty of Humanities Strengthens Creative Writing Education through National Teacher Development Workshop

The Faculty of Humanities, Naresuan University, organized the 5th Model Teacher Development Workshop in Creative Writing from 5–6 September 2026 at the Faculty of Humanities, Naresuan University. Focusing on four literary genres—poetry, short stories, novels, and non-fiction—the programme aimed to strengthen creative writing skills, enhance teachers’ capacity to integrate creative writing into their teaching, and build a nationwide network of educators and literary enthusiasts.
The programme was supported by the Cultural Promotion Fund, Department of Cultural Promotion, Ministry of Culture, for Fiscal Year 2026. Asst. Prof. Dr. Onusa Suwanpratest, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Naresuan University, officially opened the workshop, while Mr. Anukool Baiklai, Director of the Cultural Promotion Fund, welcomed participants.
Over the two-day programme, 67 participants from across Thailand—including teachers, university lecturers, and individuals from diverse professional backgrounds with an interest in creative writing—explored the techniques and creative processes involved in four major literary forms: poetry, short stories, novels, and non-fiction. The workshop covered idea development, storytelling techniques, constructive critique, and approaches to integrating creative writing into teaching and future literary practice.
Participants also benefited from close guidance and mentorship from six distinguished literary figures and professional writers:
* Mr. Saksiri Meesomsueb, National Artist in Literature, 2016
* Assoc. Prof. Thanya Sangkapanthanon, National Artist in Literature, 2016
* Mr. Rewat Phanphiphat, National Artist in Literature, 2024
* Mr. Weerasak Chansongsaeng, Silpathorn Award and Mekong River Literary Award recipient
* Mr. Prayoon Hongsathorn, writer, photographer, and book creator
* Mr. Thanabat Jai-in, also known by his pen name “Rat Panjiang,” writer and lecturer in the Department of Thai Language, Faculty of Humanities, Naresuan University
Through a combination of expert mentorship, hands-on practice, and peer exchange, the workshop provided participants with opportunities not only to refine their own writing but also to develop approaches for inspiring creativity in their students and communities. By empowering educators as model teachers and facilitators of creative writing, the programme seeks to extend its impact beyond individual participants and encourage a wider culture of reading, writing, and literary creativity.
The initiative reflects the Faculty of Humanities’ commitment to academic service and cultural development, particularly its role in promoting reading and writing, strengthening Thailand’s cultural capital, and connecting literary knowledge with education and society. By bringing together educators, writers, and literary practitioners from across the country, the programme contributes to a sustainable network through which creative writing knowledge and practice can continue to grow and reach new generations.
